King Pin Links Challenge - 2009

Inaugural King Pin Links Challenge

Maryland National Golf Club - May 15, 2009

The inaugural King Pin Links Challenge turned out to be a great one! After watching the weather change pretty much hourly leading up to the day of the tournament, it turned out to be a spectacular day...80+ degrees and bright blue skies!

We had a great turn out for the 1st year of the tournament...20 golfers for the morning "practice round" and 24 golfers for the afternoon 4-person best ball tournament round.

We ended up with a tie for 1st place this year. Group 1 with the Kovolenko brothers, Chris George and Matt Robinson tied with Group 5 which consisted of George Santoro, the Atwell brothers, and Mark Criscuolo. The winning teams tied with a very impressive score of 9-under par. 2 teams came in with a score of 8-under par, 1 team ended with a score of 6-under par...and last but surely not least, the last place team consisting of yours truly, Brett Wilkinson, Matt Dezee and Jeremy Williams rounded out the field with a respectable score of 5-under par. Only 4 shots between last place and first place, so I would say we had a very competitive and fair match. The final standings are below:

STANDINGS:
1st place (tie) 62 (9-under): Matt Robinson, Zack Kovolenko, Josh Kovolenko, Chris George
1st place (tie) 62 (9-under): George Santoro, Bob Atwell, Jeff Atwell, Mark Criscuolo
3rd place (tie) 63 (8-under): Jason Alexander, Chris Clement, Josh Cullen, Justin Koch
3rd place (tie) 63 (8-under): Kyle Clement, Dave Foelsch, Marc Foelsch, Jon Jennings
5th place 65 (6-under): Jeff Murphy, Jim Melvin, Doug Grills, Rick Levitan
6th place 66 (5-under): Matt Dezee, Jeremy Williams, Brett Wilkinson, Eric Murphy

The 6th hole was the closest to the pin hole, won by Jeff Atwell from Group 5 with a shot that measured about 9 feet from the pin.

And in a close race, Eric Murphy won the longest drive hole (hole # 13) with a drive of 305 yards...barely beating out Chris George who had a drive of 302 yards.

By default the "King Pin Cup" went to Group 1 since they hung around for the "after party"...therefore it is now their responsibility to take care of that cup over the course of this next year, have their names engraved on the side of the trophy...and they MUST come prepared to defend their title next year!

Thanks to everybody who came out this year and I hope to see you at next year's tournament. I hope you had as much fun as I did!
